Conjugate Acid and Base
How to Identify the Conjugate Acid and Base:
1. HCl + NH3 ->NH4+ + CL-
Acid: HCL Base: NH3 -> Conjugate Acid: NH4 + Conjugate Base: CL-
Another Example:
- The conjugate acid is the element or compound that ended up with the H+ ion, and the conjugate base is simply the other one.
- Hint* As a little shortcut, the conjugate acid is always the base in the reactant plus an H+ ion. The conjugate base is always the acid in the reactant minus an H+ ion.
1. HCl + NH3 ->NH4+ + CL-
Acid: HCL Base: NH3 -> Conjugate Acid: NH4 + Conjugate Base: CL-
